Enrichment
All children at Brooke Priory benefit from an enriched curriculum including Sports, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Dance and Drama. The children throughout the school from nursery age upwards also enjoy a variety of exciting educational school trips and experiences to support and enhance their learning. Recent trips include Rockingham Castle, Fort Lunt Roman Fort, the National Space Centre, Stibbington Day Centre nature reserve, the Van Gogh immersive experience, West Lodge Farm Park, shows at The Curve Theatre Leicester and learning how to be planet protectors at Oakham recycling centre to name a few.
As well as fun trips, Brooke Priory regularly invites educational visitors and speakers to school assemblies. Recently the children have enjoyed a talk by Rutland Ospreys and an exciting presentation by The Rutland Water Nature Reserve regarding the fossilised remains of the ichthyosaur “dinosaur”. The school welcomes educational workshops and demonstrations, including PULSE CSI Science workshop, a WWI Trenches experience, and Thrilling Forces science day.
Many of these trips and workshops are included in the school fees and parents will be notified by letter in advance of any additional costs.
Residential trips include Whitwell Hall (Form III), Hilltop Outdoor Centre (Form IV), Aylmerton Field Study Centre (Form V) and Anglesey Outdoor Centre (Form VI). Additionally, a parents, family and friends’ ski trip to France takes place in the Easter holidays.
All children experience the joy and excitement of learning another language, beginning in nursery and continuing throughout their time at Brooke Priory. French is taught throughout the school by our specialist language teacher Madame Persani. Language learning is further encouraged as part of our wider enrichment programme in French and Spanish after school clubs, and other language and culture workshops – the most recent was a fantastic Mandarin workshop.
Music is led by Mrs. Gant and taught by specialist tutors with one to one sessions delivered in our purpose built music rooms. Music tuition is booked and paid in advance each term.
The children at Brooke enjoy Drama classes and workshops and any performing arts enthusiasts are guided by our specialist teachers and external tutors. Budding performers are nurtured with after school clubs, holiday clubs and workshops including LAMDA. Performances are prepared and held in our purpose built theatre with amazing shows featuring each year.
Dance is a passion for many of our children and our specialist trained dance teacher Miss. Francesca delivers classes from nursery up to Form VI in timetabled and paid extra curricular and holiday club lessons, with Cecchetti Classical Ballet, ISTD Modern and musical theatre workshops available to be booked termly.
This plethora of enrichment activities is further bolstered by lots of active time in the fresh air on the school field, in the adventure playground, in the sensory wildlife garden and with visits to the site of the original school for ‘Welly Days’ at Brooke.
