Prep School
School Hours – Prep Monday to Friday 8.20-8.35am – 3.40pm Our Prep department is structured to ensure that the changing needs of the children are met as they progress up through the school. This has created a warm and vibrant environment where children are encouraged and supported to be ‘the best that they can be’.
Children enter our Prep department when they are seven years old, typically moving up from our Pre-Prep. However, pupils new to the school find that the atmosphere we cultivate means that they settle in quickly and make many new friends. Our small class sizes result in a deeper understanding between pupils and their form teachers, keeping the children’s happiness and well-being at the very heart of everything we do.
Whilst their form teacher remains the pupils’ first point of contact, our qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), working closely with the school Well-being Co-ordinator, provide additional pastoral care. We firmly believe that a happy child is one who can fully engage with school life and be well prepared to succeed.
Academically, our curriculum builds on the firm foundations laid in Pre-Prep and offers an exciting and engaging curriculum taught by highly qualified teachers, supported by teaching assistants in bright stimulating classrooms. Children in the Prep have a variety of specialist teachers for subjects including Science, Music, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Design & Technology, and P.E.
Form V and VI (our upper Prep)
As children move on to Form V and Form VI, the curriculum allows children to delve deeper in their learning and use their skills more independently.
We prepare children for the next steps in their education at Senior School and beyond, with a balanced approach and teaching how best to use their transferable skills, equipping them for their school of choice. Preparation for the various assessments at a variety of schools are individually delivered.
The Form V Enterprise Project allows the children to develop their entrepreneurial skills by practising money management, budgeting, event planning and working with local and Nationwide charities and businesses, giving them their first real insight into the business world.
Moving on to their final year at Brooke Priory, the Leadership curriculum in Form VI allows children to develop skills including communication, public speaking, coaching and debating. Our “Buddy” programme pairs Form VI children with their younger peers in Kindergarten, giving them the responsibility and important job of mentor, friend and role model.
Our holistic approach to education means that all our children leave us confident, and with the personal and academic skills that will stand them in good stead for the next stage of their education.
