School Council

Our School Council introduces the children to the concept of democracy and gives them their very own taste of election fever!  Each class in the Prep is entitled to one girl seat and one boy seat on the council.  The children whose names are put forward for nomination are supported by their fellow class members during their election campaigns.  Posters bearing election slogans are put up around the school and tension mounts.  Elections take place during the week before our autumn half term.  Pupils have one vote and soon learn to use it wisely.  Successful candidates are presented with their School Council badge during our whole school assembly on Thursday and wear them with pride.

Mrs Bell oversees the Council and their first lunchtime meeting takes place immediately after half term.  The children learn the etiquette of being part of an official meeting, being led by a chairperson, making suggestions, joining in debates, conferring with the class that they represent, reflecting their thoughts and ultimately reaching a consensus and carrying through what is agreed.

The School Council implemented our recycling system, which has been running for a number of years.  They highlight issues that are important to them and particularly enjoy raising money for charity.
