Summer Term

U11A Cricket v Laxton - 8th June 2016

We lost the toss and we bowled.  We bowled well, with one wicket for Indro off a great catch from Ed.  Laxton got 101.  Our batting got off to a good start, with Mees hitting 43!  Well played, everyone.

Report by Will Begy, U11A Cricket Captain

U9 Cricket v Laxton - 8th June 2016

On Wednesday the 8th of June we played Laxton in a cricket match.  We lost the toss and they chose to bat.  They batted strongly but conceded 3 wickets, then it was our turn to bat.  Ed and Nathan batted well to get the innings rolling.  Knowing the weak spots of the other team, Douwe hit a superb 4 into the cover boundary.  The final score was 174 to us and 191 to Laxton.  Well done everyone and thank you Mr Weeks for coaching us.

Report by Maxwell Weir, U9 Cricket Captain

U11A Cricket v Stoneygate - 11th May 2016

Yesterday we played Stoneygate.  We lost the toss and they decided to field.  We didn't get off to the best of starts, losing early wickets but we got up to 111.  In our bowling we started really well, with a wicket first ball, but we couldn't maintain the momentum and they got 160.  Well played everyone and thank you Mr Wand for taking us.

Report by Will Begy, U11A Cricket Captain

U11B Cricket v Stoneygate - 11th May 2016

Yesterday, we played Stoneygate at Kibworth Cricket Club.  We won the toss and decided to field.  We got off to a good start with some good bowling and fielding from all, especially Billy who bowled exceptionally and Ben who was a really good wicket keeper.  Stoneygate managed to get 183, starting with 100.  Then it was our turn to bat.  We batted well, with some good fours from both Freddies.  We lost by 10 runs.  Well done to everyone and thank you to Mr Weeks for coaching us on the day.

Report by Ned Hercock, U11B Cricket Captain

Spring Term

 U11B Netball v Copthill - 2nd March, 2016

On 2nd March the U11B team played Copthill.  We started off strong by winning the centre pass.  We kicked off the game with Antonia scoring an amazing first goal.  The defenders worked well as a team, getting the ball down to our end, with Izzy having a shot and then Antonia scoring once again.  By half time we were 4:0 up, but our determination to maintain our lead was as storng as ever.  Then Copthill scored two, but Antonia scored another 3 goals.  Even Antonia was shocked by this!  In the last quarter Antonia scored another 2 goals.  The oposition scored 1 more goal and then the whistle blew.  We were very well matched, but in the end the final score was 9:3 to us.  We played so well and the whole team should be proud.  Thank you, Mrs Broad, for taking us!

Report by Alice Whyman, U11B Netball Captain

U10 Netball v Copthill - 2nd March, 2016

On Wednesday, 2nd March, the Under 10s (with two Under 9s) played an exceptionally tall Copthill team in a thrilling Netball match.  In the 1st quarter Brooke took early possession of the ball.  However Copthill quickly stole it, and made it to our 'D'.  Fortunately Christina and Eliza defended well, re-capturing the ball.  Phoebe was our first scorer.  With high spirits from an early success we went on to dominate the game.  From there on the ball rarely escaped into Copthill's grasp and remained firmly in our territory, with the help of Gracie and our new Centre (me!).  Copthill had the first Centre of the 2nd quarter, but the ball was quickly intercepted by Eliza and Imogen.  Bolstered by her first success, Phoebe scored again.  Copthill fought back with a goal, quickly followed by Olivia's first goal for Brooke.  Mrs Cashman's half time team talk and re-fuelling energised us all to fight on.  The 3rd quarter saw Brooke boldly bulging with confidence, Olivia scoring two goals and Phoebe a third.  The 4th quarter resulted in Brooke's triumph being secured by Phoebe and Olivia taking it in turns to score three more goals, leaving the final score at an amazing 9 to Brooke and 2 to Copthill.  Well done, everyone, for an outstanding result and great sportsmaship.  Especially thank you to Mrs Cashman ... we could not have done it without you.

Report by Xanthe Anstee-Marriott, U10 Netball Captain

U8 Netball v Copthill - 2nd March, 2016

Yesterday the U8 girls went to Copthill School to play our first netball match and we actually played an Under 9 team!  In the first quarter we tried hard but we didn't score any goals.  In the second quarter we tried harder and Sophia and Sienna scored 2 goals.  In the third quarter we tried really hard, and Sophia scored.  In the final quarter we did a lovely pass to Sienna and she scored.  The final score was 4:0 to us.  We had a fantastic time.  Well done, everyone, and thank you to Mrs Gelderbloom and Mrs Denman for coaching us.

Report by Lily Beadsley, U8 Netball Captain

U9 Netball v Leicester Grammar Junior School - 3rd February, 2016

On Wednesday, 3rd February, the U9 netball team played LGJS.  Even though we lost the toss, Gabby scored the first goal.  Leicester Grammar fought back and equalised.  In the second quarter everyone played well, but there were no more goals.  In the third quarter Leicester Grammar got ahead by one more goal.  The final quarter of the game was well fought, both sides missed some chances to score.  Leicester Grammar scored the last goal, making the score 3:1 to them.  Well played everyone and thank you Mrs Gelderbloom for the brilliant coaching.

Report by Eloise Snape, U9 Netball Captain

U11B Football v Leicester Grammar Junior School - 3rd February, 2016

We started the match with good defending by the whole team and the first half ended with a score of 0:0.  In the second half, Leicester were tired which allowed Billy and me to score a goal each.  Freddie made a good tackle and passed the ball to Billy, who scored a brilliant goal.  Billy then tackled the Leicester striker from the kick-off and scored a hat trick.  We then begain to tire, with a few shots reaching Ben, but with a last push of hard work from a goal kick I managed to make the score 5:0 to us.  Well done to the team and thank you Mr Wand for coaching us on Tuesday.

Report by George Marlow, U11B Football Captain

U11 Netball v Oakham - 27th January, 2016

On Wednesday 27th we played Oakham in a netball match.  We started off well, passing the ball down the pitch, but Oakham sneaked the first goal.  In the second quarter we all marked well and Alice scored two brilliant goals.  Ella and Nancy defended well, but Oakham scored their second goal of the match.  At half time it was two all.  We made some position changes and kept possession of the ball well.  But we struggled to get the ball in the net.  In the last quarter we scored three goals, two by Gabi and one by Alice, well played both of you.  The final score was 5:2 to Brooke.  Well played everyone and thank you Mrs Cashman for your support.

Report by Jolie Mitchell-Clarke, U11 Netball Captain

U11A Netball v Stoneygate - 20th January, 2016

On 20th January, the Brooke Priory U11A team went to Stoneygate School to play a netball match.  We started strong and took the first centre pass, as we had won the toss.  Stoneygate forced the ball up the pitch and into the goal.  They tried to get the ball in the goal again, but Fran, Nancy and Ella defended well.  As a result Gabi scored.  Taking us by surprise, Stoneygate then scored and so did Gabi.  Stoneygate scored a few more goals and then Alice scored.  Once again Alice threw the ball to the hoop but whilst it was in mid air the whistle blew.  Luckily the point still counted!  The score was 3:4 to us.  After an inspiring team talk by mrs Cashman we set off again.  The players we marked were extremely tall so Jolie jumped like a gazel, snatching the ball away from the other players.  Stoneygate scored twice and, to match it, Gabi scored twice.  When we started the third quarter Stoneygate had swapped round their WD and GS and she was amazing!  We fell behind.  In the fourth quarter we roared back to life, now that we knew their tricks Alice scored.  The final score was 7:11 to Stoneygate.  Well done, everyone.  What a tough match!  Thank you to Mrs Cashman for coaching us.

Report by Tess Cunliffe, U11A Netball Captain

U11B Netball v Stoneygate - 20th January, 2016

On Wednesday, 20th January, the U11B team played Stoneygate.  It was a hard match.  In the first quarter Stoneygate scores 6 goals.  In the second quarter we scored 1 goal.  At half time Mrs Broad told us to throw like Popeye and defend more closely, so we did!  In the third quarter we scored another goal.  In the last quarter we scored 2 more goals

Report by Malley Hutter, U11B Netball Captain

U11B Football v Stoneygate - 20th January, 2016

Yesterday the U11C team played Stonegate at football.  Unfortunately, we got off to a bad start, conceding 2 goals.  However, Ben made a very good save.  Then Tom Samworth scored 2 goals, which equalised the score.  After half time, Oliver scored an excellent goal, which brought us ahead. Then Tom got a hat-trick!  The final score was 4:2 to us.  Well played everyone and thank you to Mr Wand for coaching us.

Report by Ned Hercock, U11C Football Captain

U11A Netball v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

On Wednesday, 13th January, the Under 11A team went to Fairfield.  We won the toss and elected to take the first pass from centre.  In the first quarter, Fairfield scored a goal and so did we.  In the second quarter, Fairfield were fast and scored two more goals, although Alice and Tess defended well.  In the third quarter, Fairfield kept us on our toes and scored four more goals.  Francesca marked well and got into lots of spaces, which meant we scored two more goals.  Finally, the score was 9:3 to Fairfield.  Well played, everyone!

Report by Jolie Mitchell-Clarke, U11A Netball Captain

U11B Netball v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

On Wednesday, the U11B team played a netball match against Fairfield.  We started off smoothly, passing the ball down to the D, but Fairfield soon got the ball going the other way.  We kept going!  In that quarter, Fairfield scored one goal.  Ariyana put up some fantastic defence and so did Izzy and Malley.  In the third quarter, our attackers did brilliantly and Mathilda scored a goal!  In the fourth quarter, we kept going but did not manage to score another goal.  Fairfield scored two more goals, so that made it 3:1 to Fairfield.  Well done, everyone, for playing brilliantly.

Report by Antonia Webster, U11B Netball Captain

U10 Netball v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

Yesterday the U10 team played Fairfield.  It was a good match, with everybody focused from the start.  Scarlett, Eleanor, Molly and Eliza were always getting into space.  Xanthe and Olivia played hard.  Our first goal was scored by Olivia and the second by me!  The final score was 5:2 to Fairfield.  Well played, everyone, and thank you Mrs Denman.

Report by Phoebe Ongley, U10 Netball Captain

U11A Boys' Football v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

Yesterday, Brooke boys' U11A team played Fairfield, away.  We had been warned that they were a strong team.  At half time we were already 2:0 down.  In the second half we were determined not to go down with a massive defeat and so we all worked really hard to prevent it.  The result at the end of the match was 4:0 to Fairfield, which was a fair but disappointing result.  Well played, everyone!  Thank you Mr Flint.

Report by Ruben Persona, U11A Football Captain

U11B Boys' Football v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

Yesterday the Brooke Priory B Team went to play Fairfield in a 7-a-side football match.  We started the match quite well, with Thomas scoring one goal.  Then, as we went into the second half, we began to get tired.  But, Seb, Casper and I still managed to get some good runs and Harry did some amazing saves.  The final score was 5:1 to Fairfield.

Report by Art Culloty, U11B Football Captain

U11C Boys' Football v Fairfield - 13th January, 2016

The U11C football team started off well, with good defending from Charlie and Ned.  A bit later on we got a penalty, with George Marlow smacking the ball into the back of the net.  We started to lose confidence towards half time, conceding two goals.  In the second half we played more confidently, with great runs from Freddie Collins, George and myself.  Sadly, when the final whistle went we were the losers, the score was 5:1 to Fairfield.  Well played to the team and thank you Mr Weeks for coaching us.

U11A Hockey v Oakham School - 25th November, 2015

This was our last match of the season and we played against Oakham A’s.  Brooke dominated throughout the match, with Ella scoring 2 amazing reversed stick goals within the first five minutes.  Although Oakham tried to attack, Tess was very reliable, breaking down the midfield play.  Nancy, Mathilda and Lucy unfortunately didn’t get much opportunity to show their skills because the ball hardly came their way.  Jolie scored a sneaky rebound goal and I scored a further three goals.  The final score was 6-1 to Brooke.  This was a great match to end our season with.  A very big thank you to Mrs Denman, Mrs Broad and Mrs Cashman for helping us through our Hockey journey at Brooke.

Report by Gabi Gelderbloom, U11A Hockey Captain

U11B Hockey v Oakham School - 25th November, 2015

U11A Rugby v Ratcliffe - 11th November, 2015

Yesterday, Ratcliffe came over to Brooke to play a match of Rugby.  It was very muddy and dirty, so it was very slippery and the ball was hard to catch.  We started the game off really well, with great tackling and some great runs, ending in Will's try.  We started to get a bit full on though and slowed down, resulting in a Ratcliffe try.  Ratcliffe got stronger and scored again, due to our bunching up and missed tackles, but we fought back and, from a great kick from Will and some great team work, Will scored again.  With a confident team talk at half time we came back fighting, but we lost a bit of aggression and conceded two more tries.  Just before the whistle, Will scored again.

The team has improved as the season has gone on and we thank Mr Wand very much for building us up to this game.  The final score was 5:3 to Ratcliffe.

Report by Sean Lee, U11A Rugby Captain

Yesterday we travelled over to Leicester Grammar.  We lost the toss and they had first pushback.  We started slowly, with Leicester Grammar scoring the first goal.  Our defenders did some great defending, but, unfortunately, Leicester Grammar managed to score another goal.  At half time the score was 2 nil to Leicester Grammar.  Mrs Cashman changed some of our positions.  The whistle blew and Leicester Grammar got the ball and Tess, Francesca and Ella tried really hard to get the ball off them.  We did have a few chances to score but narrowly missed.  Two further goals were scored by Leicester Grammar and the final score was 4:0 to them.  It was a tough match, but we all played our hardest.  Well done, everyone!  Thank you Mrs Cashman.

Report by Gabi Gelderbloom, U11A Hockey Captain

U11A Rugby v LGJS - 4th November, 2015

Yesterday, Leicester Grammar School came to Brooke to play Rugby.  It was our first match after half term and in the morning it had rained heavily, so the pitch was very muddy and slippery.  The game started well with a great try by George Marlow, which was set up by some great team work by him, Ed and Will.  Leicester Grammar came at us hard, but we matched their one try with a further two, both scored by Will.  Before the end of the first half we were tiring and we were bunching, but after the half time break and a team talk from Mr Wand we came back into the second half fighting.  The second half saw some great tackles and runs by most of the team and ended with a further 3 tries from Will.  The final score was 6:1 to us.  The boys played really well and I am very proud of the way they all pulled together as a team.  It was a great match!  Thank you to Mr Wand for his coaching and encouragement.  Well done to the team!

Report by Jolie Mitchell-Clarke, U11B Hockey Captain

U9 Hockey v Leicester Grammar Junior School - 4th November, 2015

Yesterday the U9 team went to Leicester Grammar to play hockey.  We scored the first two goals in the first three minutes!  It was a really good start and made Leicester Grammar step up and play harder.  I was proud of the way we all stayed in our positions and didn't get in a muddle around the ball.  The three Form III players, who joined us for their first match, played very well.  Eloise, Lily, Grace, Imogen and I all scored goals.  The final score was 4:3 to us.  Well done, everyone!
