From the Headmaster

Back to the news pages...

We have all enjoyed a busy start to the year and new term. Already Christmas & January are a distant memory although the weather has remained very chilly and seasonal. However, as we approach half term, we are hopeful of improving weather.

I hope that you like the inaugural edition of the BPS Update news letter. This is very much ‘work in progress’ and will be further developed after the new website is launched later this term.

Congratulations to the Form VI children. The children have enjoyed a 100% pass rate at 11+ to independent schools  - Cheltenham Ladies' College, Oakham School, Stamford Endowed Schools and Tudor Hall. This is in addition to the 3 children who passed the 11+ to the LA Grammar Schools in Grantham last term. This is a fantastic achievement and well done to the children and staff who approached the process so positively.

A special congratulations to Eloise, Ellie and Seb who were awarded scholarships at Oakham (academic), Stamford (academic) and Oakham (music) respectively. These are tremendous achievements.

Since the start of term, the nursery children have enjoyed their larger and improved areas for teaching and learning.  Mrs McMurray and the rising 3 children have enjoyed the sole use of the nursery building. This has allowed the staff to coordinate more creative activities for the children. Mrs Cole and the rising 4 children have felt very "grown up" working in the main school and alongside the Kindergarten children.

At the start of term, Mrs Burton organised for Form IV & V to attend the Young Voices concert at the Genting Arena in Birmingham. Our children joined a choir of 6000 other primary school children and collectively they performed a musical extravaganza. A great night was had by all!

After the success of our Gymnastic Teams last term with the Girls coming 4th nationally, this term the teams took part in the Rutland Gymnastics Competition. Both the Milano G and mixed teams have qualified for the national finals next month in Stoke-on-Trent. Good luck to them all.

The school enjoyed a thought provoking assembly led by Mrs Northcott and the girls from Lincoln House at Oakham School. Everyone was given a piece of lego on arrival as they entered the assembly and Mrs Northcott and the girls inspired the children to be "creative". The school councillors have chosen as their 'values treat' to have some "lego time" today when each form was given 30 minutes to create something out of lego. Creativity and teamwork were the 2 key words for the day!

Today the prep children enjoyed their annual school swimming gala. There were some excellent individual performance and well done to Eagles, the overall winners.

Thank you to Mrs Purcell for covering so admirably for Mrs Cashman this term. She will return to her normal duties after half term. We are delighted to welcome back Wendy Bromwich on her return after half term following her recent treatment.

I hope that you all enjoy a very happy and restful half term.
