In the EYFS at Brooke Priory, we have been settling very well into our new surroundings.  The 2+ and 3+ children are enjoying the luxury of the additional space in the Nursery with Mrs McMurray, whilst the 4+ children, our preschool, have moved into the main school next to the Kindergarten classes with Mrs Cole.  Sharing story times, singing and assemblies together provides super opportunities for the children to become more familiar with the school surroundings and the staff, which all helps towards a seamless transition when starting school.

Our topics have given the children plenty of opportunities to engage in a range of exciting and adventurous challenges and activities.  During our Owl topic we welcomed Mr Appleton into the class for the afternoon who bought with him some owl pellets.  Fully engrossed the children investigated and explored the pellets, using tweezers to pull them apart and we discovered all sorts of different bones and skulls.  A few weeks on and the children are still talking about it!

The winter weather, which we have recently experienced, has given us some rich and stimulating fun during our outdoor learning. Walking through the snow, listening to it crunch beneath our wellies and building snowmen, led onto a fabulous week of discovering which animals might live in colder climates.  The nursery is brimming with penguins, walruses and polar bears, adding to that the igloos and the sleigh for the children to discover.  Little do the children know how much learning is taking place during their time in our EYFS!

Embracing the use of technology during our Robot week, the children took their first steps in learning how to programme a Bee-Bot, (a robot shaped like a bee).  Not only were the children learning the basic skills of programming, they were also fully involved in counting, sequencing, estimating, problem solving as well as having a great deal of fun!
