Year VI Evacuee Day

Back to the news pages...

On Thursday, 4th May, Year VI were transported back in time to 1941 for their Evacuee Day… The children were collected by coach and evacuated to Grantham.  Due to a landmine on the railway, they were diverted to Buckminster, where they experienced an air raid and found an unexploded bomb in a field.  They completed a Home Guard proficiency test which included identifying aircraft and sending and deciphering Morse Code messages.  They learnt a foot drill (and how to use a bayonet) and rescued an injured person from the top floor of a building by constructing two tripods and lowering a stretcher through a window.  They had to remain in character for the whole day!
