Drama at Brooke Priory has never been more vibrant.  The completion of our new theatre, with its high-tech lighting and sound systems, gives us so many wonderful possibilities.  Weekly dance and drama lessons are enhanced by the amazing space.  Parent assemblies have taken on a completey new atmosphere, the tiered seating making it possible for everyone to have a birds-eye view.

From the Nursery upwards, every child treads the boards at least once a year.  No Christmas would be complete without the Nursery and Kindergarten Nativity, which gives most of them their first step into the limelight.  The Pre Prep then take on a musical production, which has usually been written for them by our very talented Carrie Grantham and will then be published for other schools to enjoy.  Drama lessons form part of the curriculum for the Prep and each year group undertakes a dramatic performance of some sort, in the past we have been transported to Greece in the time of the Trojan Horse and the Middle East with the story of Scheherazade.  Form VI often take on the Bard and master Shakespearean language with impressive results.

Our aim is to expose pupils to a wide range of dramatic forms, from mime to lively musical theatre.  Developing their understanding of the world around them, teaching them to appreciate the link between actions, consequences and emotions.

Extra-curricular opportunities allow children to cultivate their knowledge and many now participate in LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons and Wildcats Musical Theatre.  We were very proud when three of our girls successfully auditioned to perform in London's West End last year.

As our reputation spreads, so do the opportunities and we were thrilled to get a call from Grange Park Opera in the Summer Term 2011 inviting 5 of our boys to perform in their production of Tosca at Nevill Holt in July.

I am continually impressed and delighted by the confidence and stage presence of our young thespians and I wonder how long it will be before one of our old boys or girls takes a leading role in a major national stage production or, who knows, even Hollywood!
