Homework

Homework is a discipline which should naturally form part of daily routine.  It should not be onerous.

Reading folders are taken home daily throughout the school.  From Year 1 there are weekly spelling lists.  From Year 2 multiplication tables are introduced.  In addition, homework is set from Year 2.  A gradual progression takes place from Year 3 with 1 night plus weekend homework, through to Year 6 who have nightly homework except on match night.

Most homework is reinforcement based, linking topical work from a daily lesson to an independently worked activity at home - some homework involves research.  Homework should take approximately 30 minutes and is not designed to cause any anxiety - parents are asked to communicate any problems immediately so that we can help to solve them without delay.

Supervised prep sessions are run after school every day, from 3.40 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. - 5.45 p.m.  These are very popular, as parents and children are pleased to have the support of a teacher and enable time at home to be work free.
